Red Clay invests in and partners with top-notch businesses in concrete coatings and related service industries. We work exclusively with teams who never cut corners and who believe their business's best days are still ahead.
Approach
The cultures, teams, and identities behind the companies we work with are often the biggest drivers of their success. We're not in the business of overhauling things that are working well.
Owners know their businesses better than anyone. Our objective is to provide resources, not to tell people how to do their jobs.
We aim to provide the scale benefits of a national platform so our partners can win locally. Access to capital, shared back-office resources, and greater purchasing power allow teams to spend more time growing the business and less time buried in administrative headaches.
We only structure deals that keep our goals in lockstep with our partners' goals. Usually, that means allowing owners to take some chips off the table today while keeping a stake in a larger, growing enterprise.
About Us
We believe treating people with dignity and doing the honorable thing is a basic, indispensable element of daily life.
Whether it's family, faith, pursuit of a dream, or something else, we get out of bed every day living for a purpose greater than earning a paycheck.
We are unashamedly patriotic and recognize that living freely is a privilege that countless people would trade everything for, so we conduct our lives accordingly.
We aim to generously use our talents, resources, and opportunities for the betterment of others and society as a whole.
We have a duty to deliver work we are proud of, and we strive for excellence in every respect of what we do.
We lock arms with our partners, employees, investors, customers, and suppliers. When it comes to Red Clay stakeholders, we win when everyone wins, and our goal is never for others to lose.
John Foster grew up in Fitzgerald, a small town in rural South Georgia. He started working when he was in elementary school, stocking shelves, bagging ice, and rolling quarters at his family's gas station. When he turned 16, he began landscaping for local landlords, started a t-shirt company, and launched an entrepreneurship work program at his high school.
After graduating from college, John started a cargo trailer-pulling business to pay the bills before beginning his full-time career in Atlanta. After working several years as a management consultant, he returned to Fitzgerald to restore a local historic property into an event venue and bar, which he still owns a minority share of today.
John is a strong believer in the American Dream and the idea that "luck" is a dividend of hard work. He started Red Clay to build a platform for those who ground their teeth building durable businesses and whose labor provides the bedrock of the American economy. His goal is to allow high-caliber operators to join forces with a network of likeminded leaders and to create extraordinary opportunities and outcomes for themselves, their teams, and their families.
John lives in Atlanta with his middle school sweetheart, Leah, and his newborn son, Cal. He holds a BSBA from Georgia Tech, an MBA from The Wharton School, and a JD from The University of Pennsylvania Law School.
